Dental Care & Nutrition
Why is dental care important for nutrition?
Dental care is important for:
- Chewing
- Better digestion
- Preventing bad breath - Tooth sensitivity
It is important to take care of the teeth and gums because it affects how you eat. For example, if a tooth is damaged or missing you will have more difficulty chewing. Developing bad breath can affect how something tastes, so it is better to prevent tooth decay and bad breath. Also, you do not want to eat super hard foods like certain candies or eat ice because it can damage the tooth. This then leads to food sensitivity which can make it painful to eat hot or cold foods.
How to take care of your teeth?
- Flossing
- Brushing (twice a day)
- Limiting Sugary Snack
- Drinking water
The international recommendation states to brush teeth twice per day for at least 2-3 minutes. While brushing your teeth you can play your favorite song to make the time go faster since most songs are about 3 minutes. Reducing the number of sugary snacks and drinks helps prevent cavities which can hurt and make you not want to eat. Also, try to drink water whenever you can, not only does it keep you hydrated but it helps wash away food particles and bacteria.
