Health Coaching Initiative

Our participants won’t make lasting changes to their eating habits just by receiving education. If we want them to act on the information and resources we give them, we must support them in the process. As a component of our Crops in the Kitchen Program, our Health Coaching Initiative, will recruit and train a team of health coaches, who will meet virtually with individuals and families monthly to help build their confidence, skills, and motivation to grow, prepare, and eat the vegetables from their home gardens.

Vision Board Workshop

A motivational reminder to pump you up and remind you of your health journey. You can collect photos, a list of reasons to lose weight or get healthier, magazine articles, motivational sayings – anything that means something to you!

The goal is to have this to come back to when you’re feeling low or unmotivated.

Welcome Home Basket Initiative

In 2021, Roots for Life started the Welcome Home Basket Initiative for residents in Washington, DC. The creation of the baskets was to aid in providing support to residents transitioning into permanent housing. When moving into their new home, many individuals and families lack basic household items to support living a healthier lifestyle. Regrettably, government-funded programs such as SNAP or WIC do not usually assist with these efforts.

At Roots for Life, we teach residents the importance of nutrition and healthy eating. Consuming home-cooked meals and nutritious foods can help families maintain healthy body weight, ingest important nutrients, and reduce the risk of developing health conditions.

Our Welcome Home Baskets can include the following new items: dishes, cups or mugs, cooking utensils, cookware, an herb plant, dishwashing soap and sponge, potholders, kitchen towel sets, baking trays, dish rack, cutting boards, cookbook, spices, and healthy recipe cards.
